Black Diamond Mines May 2010

Took another trip out to Antioch and Black Diamond Mines. I really do like this place and should probably make more of an effort to go there more regularly. There's a wide variety of trails, so you can find something new each time you go. It was also very pleasing on the bird front again, the start of the show being a blue-gray gnatcatcher. I saw this little thing jumping around and managed to get one picture of it. I thought it was a wren due to it's small size, but a quick consult with the book revealed that it's a gnatcather. I guess gnats are not very big, so the bird doesn't need to be very big either. Anyway, pictured:

  • American Goldfinch
  • Berwick's Wren
  • Blue-Gray Gnatcather
  • Black Phoebe
  • Brown Headed Cowbird
  • Cooper's Hawk
  • European Starling
  • House Wren
  • Lesser Goldfinch
  • Western Bluebird
  • White-Breasted Nuthatch
